Bevel Box Gear Oil, Checking and Filling

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

• Charging Device F/Haldex 2 Couplings (VAS 6291)

• Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6291/2)

• It is necessary to use adapter (VAS 6262/6) on some oil containers.






The bevel box is attached to the side of the transmission and has it own oil system.

For the bevel box gear oil specification, refer to the Fluid Capacity Tables.

Checking

Requirement:

• The bevel box must be in its installed position.

- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:

Passat and Tiguan

Passat CC and CC

- Place the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208) below.

• Cover the area below the fill plug - arrow - with a cloth.

- Remove the fill plug - arrow - from the bevel box.






It is necessary to replace the fill plug - arrow -.

The oil level is correct if the bevel box is filled with oil as far as the bottom edge of the hole.

If oil comes in contact with the bevel box, clean it from the bevel box.

- Add gear oil, if necessary.

- Install the plug - arrow - and tighten it to 15 Nm.

Filling

Requirement:

• The vehicle must be horizontal.

- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:

Passat and Tiguan

Passat CC and CC

- Remove the right drive axle shaft heat shield, if equipped, from the bevel box.

• Cover the area below the fill pug - arrow - with a cloth.






- Remove the plug - arrow - from the bevel box.

- Install the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6291/2) - A -.






- Connect the charging device F/Haldex 2 couplings (VAS 6291) - B - to the adapter - A -.

- Fill with the gear oil.

• The gear oil should leak out of the adapter - A - if the bevel box is filled correctly.

• If the oil still does not leak out, repeat the filling procedure.






- Remove the adapter for oil filling (VAS 6291/2) after the filling.

- Install the old plug and tighten it gently.

- Start the engine, engage any gear and let the transmission turn for approximately minutes.

- Turn off the engine and remove the plug.

- Check the oil level and fill again with oil up to the lower edge of the hole.

- Install the plug - arrow - and tighten it to 15 Nm.






If oil comes in contact with the bevel box, clean the bevel box.

- Install the right drive axle heat shield, if equipped.

- Install the noise insulation. Refer to one of the following:
