Windshield Seal
Removing
• The is destroyed when it is removed.
- Open the roof using the convertible top operating switch.
- Remove the upper A-pillar trim.
- Remove the windshield frame seal - 1 - from the A-pillar flange - 2 - - arrow a - and from the side retaining tabs - 3 - - arrow b -.
- Remove the windshield frame seal - 1 - from the upper retaining strip - 6 - - arrow c -.
- Loosen the seal - 1 - from the adhesive sealant - 5 - or double-sided tape - 5 - on the windshield frame - 4 -.
Installing
• On vehicles with VIN through 8V016303 or if the seal is sealed with adhesive sealant, new retaining rails must also be used.
• The roof is open.
• The seal is removed.
- Remove any adhesive residue still present using radial disc for adhesive remover (VAS 6349)
- Clean the adhesive surface with adhesive remover (D 002 000 10) right before bonding the seal.
Let the adhesive remover dry completely.
• The adhesive surface must be free of dust, grease and adhesive residue.
- Fill the corners - 5 - next to the adhesive foil - 4 - with butyl sealing cord (D 450 273 A2).
• Always install a new seal.
• Spray the seal with a soap solution so it is easy to insert into the retaining strips.
- Cover the holes - 4 - in the windshield frame with anti-friction film (7D0 827 471) or with protective foil (1C0 837 997 C).
- Press the seal - 1 - into the upper retaining strip - 5 - - arrow c -.
- Press the seal - 1 - into the side retaining strips - 3 - - arrow b - and onto the A-pillar flange - 2 - - arrow a -.
- Make sure the seal is seated securely in the retaining strips.
• The adhesive surface of the seal forms the strongest bond the first time it is applied. The bond is no longer guaranteed if the seal is removed again.
• The adhesive surface must be free of dust, grease and adhesive residue.
• The seal - 1 - fits in place correctly.
- Remove the cover film - 3 - from the entire adhesive surface.
- Forcefully press the entire adhesive surface - 2 - of the seal onto the windshield frame with the roller (3356).
