General Description

The Battery Interrupt Igniter is installed when the battery is installed in the vehicle interior or luggage compartment.

This design results in longer routing of the battery wire to the starter, which results in an increased risk of burning due to wiring damage in the event of an accident.

In the case of a crash with airbag deployment, the positive connection from the battery to the starter is pyrotechnically disconnected.

However, the electrical system voltage supply is maintained for important safety functions such as hazard lights and lighting.

The battery interrupt igniter is integrated in the main fuse box. It is located in the luggage compartment on the left starter battery.
