Side Upholstery with Side Airbag

• Removal and installation is described for right side upholstery. The same instructions apply for removal and installation for the left side upholstery.

Removing

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on airbags. Refer to --> [ Airbag Safety Precautions ] Technician Safety Information.

- Disconnect vehicle battery.

Sedan

- Remove seat bench. Refer to --> [ Seat Bench, Sedan ] Seat Bench, Sedan.

Wagon

- Fold the bench seat forward.

All vehicles

- Remove nut - 1 - (8 Nm).

- Fold backrest forward.

- If present, remove the cover cap and loosen the bolt - 2 - (8 Nm).

- Pull side upholstery - 5 - upward out of mounts - 3 - and - 4 - in body.

CAUTION!
Electrostatic discharges can lead to an unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore, technician must electrostatic discharge him-/herself before disconnecting harness connector. This is done by briefly grasping the chassis or door striker.

- Disconnect wiring harness from rear side airbag.





Installing

To install, perform the steps used for removal in reverse order.

- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect vehicle battery..
