Engine, Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
Servicing Clutch
• Manual transmission
• DSG transmission
- Make sure alignment sleeves for engine to transmission are installed in cylinder block. Install if necessary.
- When installing the engine/transmission assembly, make sure there is enough clearance to the engine and transmission mounts and radiator.
- Adjust subframe mount. Refer to --> [ Subframe Mount, Adjusting ] Subframe Mount, Adjusting.
• Subframe mount tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Subframe Mount Assembly Overview ] Subframe Mount Assembly Overview
• Electrical connections and routing.
Manual Transmission
- Install hydraulic clutch hydraulic line.
- Install transmission shift mechanism and adjust it if necessary.
Vehicles with DSG transmission:
- Install transmission selector lever cable and adjust it if necessary.
All Vehicles
The additional numbered steps must be followed to ensure the particulate filter with the NOx reduction catalytic converter is installed correctly:
• After installing the particulate filter with NOx reduction catalytic converter, make sure it is free of tension.
• Always replace self-locking nuts, seals, gaskets and clamps.
CAUTION!
The decoupling elements between the particulate filter and NOx reduction catalytic converter can be damaged.
• Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°.
• Do not stretch the decoupling element.
• Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.
- Position the lower bracket --> [ (item 26) Bracket ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview with the nuts on the cylinder block and on the particulate filter. (Do not tighten the nuts.)
- Position the new clamp with a new gasket between the particulate filter and turbocharger (do not tighten the clamp):
• Make sure the clamp is in the correct installation position --> [ Clamp Installation Position Between the Particulate

- Install the exhaust gas recirculation filter --> [ 9 Filter ] Service and Repair.
- Position a new clamp between the particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation filter (do not tighten the clamp):
• Make sure the clamp is in the correct installation position --> [ Clamp Installation Position Between the Particulate

- Position particulate filter on the upper bracket --> [ 31 Bracket ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview with the bolt. (Do not tighten the bolt.)
- Tighten mounting elements in the following sequence:
- Clamp between particulate filter and turbocharger.
• Tightening specifications --> [ 10 Securing Clamp, 7 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Lower bracket to cylinder block:
• Tightening specifications --> [ (item 25) 23 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Lower bracket to particulate filter:
• Tightening specifications --> [ (item 24) 23 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Upper bracket to particulate filter:
• Tightening specifications --> [ (item 32) 23 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Upper bracket to cylinder head:
• Tightening specifications --> [ (item 32) 23 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Clamp between the particulate filter and exhaust gas recirculation filter:
• Tightening specifications --> [ (item 21) Securing Clamp, 3,5 Nm ] Particulate Filter with NOx Absorption Catalytic Converter Assembly Overview.
- Install drive axles at the transmission.
- Install the right drive axle heat shield - arrows -.
- Install lock carrier.
- Secure refrigerant lines on A/C compressor and condenser without tension.
- Fill A/C system.
- Install battery and battery tray.
- Observe notes after connecting battery.
- Fill with coolant. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
- Fill fuel system. Refer to --> [ Fuel System, Filling ] Fuel System, Filling.
- Check DTC memories of all control modules and erase all DTC entries which may have occurred during the assembly. Refer to " Vehicle Self-Diagnosis".
- Check headlamp adjustment and adjust if necessary.
Tightening Specifications
* M12 collar bolt tightening specification: 75 Nm
