Mass Air Flow Sensor
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1783)
• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 6362)
CAUTION!
• Follow the safety precautions when working on the diesel direct injection system. Refer to --> [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.
• Observe rules for cleanliness. Refer to --> [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.
Always follow these instructions before and during work.
Removing
- Disconnect connector - 1 - from the mass air flow sensor.
- Loosen spring clip- 4 - with the spring clip pliers (VAS 6362) and disconnect the intake hose from the mass air flow sensor.
- Remove both bolts --> [ 16 3.5 Nm ] Air Filter Assembly Overview from the mass air flow sensor and carefully remove the sensor from the air filter housing upper section guide.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• Replace O-ring if damaged
• If air filter element is very dirty or soaked, dirt particles or moisture may have contaminated the mass air flow sensor and may be causing false mass air flow values. This results in a reduction of power, since a lower injection quantity is calculated.
• Always use Original air filter insert
- Check mass air flow sensor and the intake hose (clean air side) for contamination.
- Check the intake duct up to the air filter insert. If any contaminants are discovered, clean the air filter housing by washing or vacuuming. Refer to --> [ Air Filter Element ] Service and Repair.
• Tightening specification, refer to --> [ 16 3.5 Nm ] Air Filter Assembly Overview.
