Fuel Tank Assembly Overview

Always follow these instructions before and during work.





1 Cap

• Replace if damaged

2 Mounting Bolt, 1,5 Nm

3 Ground Connection

• Ensure seated tightly

4 Mounting Bolt, 11 Nm

5 Bracket

• For ABS speed sensor electrical wire

6 Fuel Tank

• Draining, refer to --> [ Fuel Tank, Draining ] Fuel Tank, Draining.

• Removing and installing, refer to --> [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

• Support using engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) when removing

7 Mounting Bolt, 25 Nm

• Replace

8 Heat Shield

9 Lock Washer

10 Securing Strap

• Note installation position

11 Suspended Mount

• For exhaust system front muffler --> [ 2 Suspended Mount ] Muffler Assembly Overview

12 Seal

• Replace if damaged

• To install, place into opening of fuel tank dry

• Moisten with fuel only when installing flange

13 Fuel Delivery Unit

• Note installation position of fuel delivery unit flange --> [ Installation Position of Fuel Delivery Unit
Flange ]

• Removing and installing, refer to--> [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit

• With fuel level sensor (G)

• Fuel level sensor removing and installing --> [ Fuel Level Sensor ] Service and Repair

• With transfer fuel pump (G6)

• Checking, refer to --> [ Transfer Fuel Pump, Checking ] Transfer Fuel Pump, Checking

14 Locking Ring, 110 Nm

• Ensure seated tightly

• Use wrench (T10202) to remove and install

15 Fuel Supply Line

• Black

• Clipped to side of fuel tank

• Ensure seated tightly

• To disconnect, press release button on connection piece

• To fuel filter --> [ 1 Fuel Supply Line ] Fuel Filter Assembly Overview

16 Fuel Return Line

• Blue

• Clipped to side of fuel tank

• Ensure seated tightly

• To disconnect, press release button on connection piece

• From fuel filter --> [ 3 Fuel Return Line ] Fuel Filter Assembly Overview

17 Fuel Filler Door Unit

• With rubber gasket

Installation Position of Fuel Delivery Unit Flange





The marking - 3 - on the flange points in opposite direction of travel.

1. Fuel return line (blue)

2. Fuel supply line (black)

3. Marking

• Flange of fuel delivery unit can only be installed in this position.

• After installing the fuel delivery unit flange, make sure the supply and return lines are still clipped onto the fuel tank.
