Fuel Supply System, Safety Precautions
Fuel Supply System, Safety Precautions
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (e.g. for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
• The fuel or fuel lines in fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
• Wear protective eyewear, gloves and clothing during all work on the fuel system to prevent eye injuries and scalding.
• In addition, the fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system, place rags around the connection area and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection!
• If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump were removed or replaced, the fuel system must be filled in order to bleed it. Refer to --> [ Fuel System, Filling ] Fuel System, Filling. (Avoid running the high pressure fuel pump dry.)
Always observe the following when removing and installing fuel level sensor or transfer fuel pump (fuel delivery unit) from full or partially filled fuel tanks:
• Before starting work, switch on exhaust extraction system and place an extraction hose close to the installation opening of fuel tank to extract escaping fuel fumes. If no exhaust extraction system is available, a radial fan (as long as motor is not in air flow) with a displacement greater than 15 m3/h can be used.
• Prevent fuel from contacting skin! Wear fuel-resistant gloves!
