Diesel Fuel Injection
Safety Precautions
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (e.g. for fuel, hydraulic, EVAP canister system, coolant and refrigerant, brake fluid, vacuum) and electrical wiring so that the original path is followed.
• Ensure sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
• The fuel or fuel lines in fuel system can become very hot (danger of scalding)!
• Wear protective eyewear, gloves and clothing during all work on the fuel system to prevent eye injuries and scalding.
• In addition, the fuel system is under pressure! Before opening the system, place rags around the connection area and release pressure by carefully loosening the connection!
• If fuel system components between the fuel tank and high pressure fuel pump were removed or replaced, the fuel system must be filled in order to bleed it. Refer to --> [ Fuel System, Filling ] Fuel System, Filling. Avoid running the high pressure fuel pump dry.
If special testing equipment is required during road test, note the following:
• Test and measuring instruments must be secured to rear seat and operated by a 2nd person from this location.
If test and measuring instruments are operated from the front passenger's seat and the vehicle is involved in an accident, there is a possibility that the person sitting in this seat may receive serious injuries when the airbag is triggered.
To reduce the risk of personal injury and/or damage to the fuel injection and glow plug system, always observe the following:
• The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting the injection and glow plug system wiring or tester cables.
• Only disconnect and connect the battery when the ignition is switched off or the engine control module could be damaged.
- Observe the notes for connecting the battery.
