Engine Control Module without Anti-Theft Protection
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B)
• If the ECM is to be replaced, connect the and perform the "Guided Function, Replacing Engine Control Module".
Removing
Conditions
• Ignition switched off.
Procedure
- Remove wiper arms and plenum chamber cover.
- Remove plenum chamber bulkhead.
- Remove securing bolts - 1 - and remove cover plate - 2 -.
- Disengage front harness connector - 1 - from the engine control module and disconnect it.
- Pry up locking mechanism - 2 - slightly.
- Push the ECM in the direction of - arrow - and out of the retaining plate.
- Release rear connector from the ECM and remove it.
Installing
- Connect rear connector to the ECM and lock it into place.
- Slide the ECM on to the retaining plate.
- Press catch - 2 - against the ECM.
- Now connect and secure the front connector - 1 - to the ECM.
- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead.
- Install the wiper arms and the plenum chamber cover.
- If the ECM was replaced, connect the vehicle diagnostic tester and perform the "Guided Function, Replacing Engine Control Module".
- Read the ECM DTC memory and erase all DTC entries.
- Perform a test drive.
• Observe safety precautions that apply to road tests. Refer to --> [ Safety Precautions ] Safety Precautions.
- Again, check the engine control module DTC memory.
