Engine Speed Sensor: Service and Repair
Engine Speed Sensor
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter (3094)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip tray (VAS 6208)
• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 6362)
Removing
Conditions
• Engine must be cold.
Procedure
- Remove insulation pan.
- Clamp off coolant hoses from the oil cooler with hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter (3094).
- Loosen hose clips - arrows - with hose clip pliers (VAS 6362).
• Collect any leaking fluid with the drip tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208).
- Disconnect coolant hoses from oil cooler.
- Remove oil filter bracket. Refer to --> [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.
- Remove bolt - arrow - and engine speed sensor (G28).
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• Engine speed sensor (G28) tightening specification, refer to --> [ 9 , 5 Nm ] Service and Repair.
• Oil filter bracket tightening specifications, refer to --> [ Oil Filter Bracket and Oil Cooler Assembly Overview ] Service and Repair.
- Check coolant level; top off if necessary. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
