EGR Temperature Sensor
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter (3094)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Drip tray (VAS 6208)
• Spring-type clip pliers (VAS 6362)
• 14 mm socket (T10401) (not illustrated)
Requirements
• Ignition switched off.
• Engine must be cold.
Procedure
• Assembly overview of vehicle from below:
- Remove the insulation pan..
- Drain the engine coolant. Refer to --> [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] [1][2]Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
• The coolant hoses indicated must be removed and moved to the side to perform assembly work on the EGR temperature sensor.
- Disconnect the coolant hoses from both connections - arrow A - and - arrow D -.
- Lay aside both coolant hoses - arrow B - and - arrow C - as illustrated.
• Assembly overview of engine compartment from above:
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to --> [ Engine Cover ] Engine Cover.
CAUTION!

- With the ignition switched off, disconnect the ground wire - arrow - from the battery.
- Remove the air filter housing --> [ Air Filter Housing ] Air Filter Housing.
- Remove the battery and battery tray - arrows -.
- Disconnect the connector from the EGR temperature sensor - arrow A - and guide the wire out.
• Note the installation location of the lines and heat shield.
The illustration shows the EGR temperature sensor as seen from the engine compartment looking out from the transmission side - arrow - below brake master cylinder.
- Carefully guide 14 mm socket (T10401) with an extension onto the EGR temperature sensor.
- Make sure the wire from the EGR temperature sensor is guided into the groove on the 14 mm socket (T10401) - arrow A -.
- Loosen the EGR temperature sensor and remove it.
Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:
• The EGR temperature sensor tightening specification is 20 Nm.
• Cut out the gasket and replace if it is damaged or leaks.
• Maintain the tightening specification.
CAUTION!
Install the heat shield mats in their original locations.
Make sure the entire connection is seated securely.
Always replace self-locking nuts, seals, gaskets and clamps.
Hoses are secured with spring-type clips.
Pliers for spring clamps (VAS 6362) or Hose clamp pliers (VAS 6340) are recommended for installing spring clamps.
