Engine: Application and ID

Engine Number

The engine number (engine code and serial number) are located at the front of the engine/transmission joint.

There is also a label located on the upper timing chain cover with the engine code and serial number on it.

The engine code letters are also located on the vehicle data plate.

The data plate is located in the spare tire wheel well or on the luggage compartment floor, as well as in the customer service plan.

The engine number consists of up to nine alphanumeric characters.

The first part (maximum 4 letters) represents the engine code , the second (six digit) is the serial number.

If more than 999,999 engines with the same engine code are produced, the first of the six characters is replaced with a letter.

Four Digit Engine Codes

Four digit engine codes beginning with "C" are used.

The first three digits describe the mechanical structure of the engine and are still stamped on the engine, as before.

The fourth digit describes the engine output and torque and depends on the Engine Control Module (ECM).

The four digit engine code is on the type label, the vehicle data plate and on the ECM.

Vehicles for some countries do not have a type label.
