Drive Axle Assembly Overview, with Triple Roller Joint AAR2600i





1 Outer Constant Velocity (CV) joint

• Replace only as complete unit.

• Removing, refer to --> [ Removing the Outer Constant Velocity (CV) Joint ] Drive Axle, with CV Joint VL107 Bolted to Intermediate Shaft

• Installing: Drive CV joint onto the drive axle using a plastic hammer, until expanded securing ring contracts.

• Checking, refer to --> [ Outer CV Joint, Checking ] Outer CV Joint, Checking.

2 Bolt

• M16 x 1.5 x 80.

• Hex bolt = 200 Nm + 180° additional turn.

• 12 point bolt = 70 Nm + 90° additional turn.

• Always replace after removal.

Vehicle must not rest on its wheels when loosening and tightening.

3 Right drive axle

4 Left drive axle

5 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

6 Outer CV joint boot

• Check for tears and scuffing.

• Material: Hytrel (Polyelastomer).

7 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tensioning, refer to--> [ Tensioning Clamp for Outer CV Joint Boot ] Drive Axle, with CV Joint VL107 Bolted to Intermediate Shaft

8 Dished washer

• Installed position, refer to --> [ Installed Location of Spring and Thrust Washers for Outer CV Joint ] Drive Axle, with CV Joint VL107 Bolted to Intermediate Shaft

9 Thrust washer

• Installed position, refer to --> [ Installed Location of Spring and Thrust Washers for Outer CV Joint ] Drive Axle, with CV Joint VL107 Bolted to Intermediate Shaft

10 Securing ring

• Always replace after removal.

• Insert in axle shaft groove.

11 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tension using (VAG 1275).

12 Inner CV joint boot

• Check for tears and scuffing.

13 Clamp

• Always replace after removal.

• Tension using (VAG 1275).

14 Securing ring

• Always replace after removal.

15 Joint piece

16 Securing ring

• Always replace after removal.

• Insert in axle shaft groove using (VW 161A).

17 Triple rotor star with rollers

Chamfer - arrow - faces the axle shaft splines.
