Engine Control Module, without Anti-Theft Immobilizer

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051B)

If the Engine Control Module (ECM) is to be replaced, connect the (VAS 5051B) and perform the "Guided Function, Replacing Engine Control Module".

Removing

- Turn off the ignition.

- Remove the wiper arms and plenum chamber cover.

- Remove plenum chamber bulkhead..

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and remove the cover plate - 2 -.





- Disengage the front harness connector - 1 - from the ECM and disconnect it.





- Pry up the locking mechanism - 2 - slightly.

- Push the ECM in the - direction of arrow - out of the retaining plate.

- Release the rear connector from the ECM and remove it.

Installing

- Connect the rear connector to the ECM and lock it into place.

- Slide the ECM on to retaining plate.

- Press the catch - 2 - against the ECM.





- Now connect the front harness connector to ECM and engage it.

- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead.

- Install the wiper arms and plenum chamber cover.

- If the ECM was replaced, connect the (VAS 5051B) and perform the "Guided Function, Replacing Engine Control Module ".

- Check the ECM Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory erase all DTC entries. Refer to "Guided Function".

If the DTC memory was erased, generate a readiness code.

- Perform a test drive.

Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests. Refer to --> [ If special testing equipment is required during road test, note the following: ] Safety Precautions.

- Again, check the ECM DTC memory.
