Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position
Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine and transmission jack (VAG 1383A)
• Tensioning strap (T10038)
• Wheel hub support (T10149)
• All bolts for suspension parts with bonded rubber bushings must always be tightened in curb weight position (unloaded condition).
Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent.
Parts with bonded rubber bushings must therefore be brought into a position that corresponds to the position in the driving mode before being tightened (curb weight position)
Otherwise, the bonded rubber bushing will be stressed resulting in a shortened service life.
By raising the wheel bearing housing on one side using the (VAG 1383A) and the (T10149), this position can be simulated on the hoist.
Before lifting the wheel bearing housing, the vehicle must be secured to hoist lift arms using (T10038).
CAUTION!
If a vehicle is not secured, there is danger that the vehicle could slip off the lift!
- Turn the wheel hub far enough until one of the holes for wheel bolts is on top.
- Install the (T10149) with a wheel bolt.
Tightening of the respective bolt/nut must then only occur after dimension - a - between the wheel hub center and the lower edge of the wheel housing has been attained.
Dimension - a - is dependent on standing height of installed suspension:
1) The suspension that the vehicle is equipped with is indicated on the vehicle data plate. The suspension is represented by the Product Relevant (PR) number. For PR numbers and assigned suspensions, refer to --> [ Vehicle Data Label ] Vehicle Data Label.
- Using the (VAG 1383A), lift the wheel bearing housing until dimension - a - is reached.
CAUTION!
• Do not lift or lower the vehicle when the (VAG 1383A) is below the vehicle.
• Do not leave the (VAG 1383A) below the vehicle any longer than necessary.
- Tighten the respective bolt/nut.
- Lower the wheel bearing housing.
- Remove the (VAG 1383A) from under the vehicle.
- Remove the (T10149).
