Front Axle Camber, Correcting

Front Axle Camber, Correcting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench 40-200 Nm (VAG 1332)

Camber correction is only necessary after service work on the body. Camber is not adjustable but can be rearranged by moving brackets and/or the subframe!

Move the subframe only toward the left or right, do not move in or away from direction of vehicle travel under any circumstance!

- Remove the noise insulation.

- Loosen bolts - 1 - for the subframe bracket/subframe on both sides.

Camber adjustment possibilities are limited by tolerances of holes in brackets and subframe. If specified value is not reached by moving components, components and body must be checked. Refer to --> [ Chassis Evaluation Checklist for Accident Vehicles ] Chassis Evaluation Checklist for Accident Vehicles.

- By sliding the subframe with bracket, specified value for camber can now by set.

- Tighten the subframe and brackets with new bolts to body to the additional torque angle.

After sliding subframe and steering gear along with it as well, clearance between the universal joint of the steering column and cutout of bulkhead must be checked.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and remove the footwell trim - 1 -.

There must now be a minimum of 5 mm free space all around between universal joint - 2 - and cutout of bulkhead.
