Procedures






Fuel System, Bleeding

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Adapter for K-jetronic test device (VAG 1318/20)

Suction pump (VAS 5226)

Vehicle diagnosis, testing, and information system (VAS 5051B)

If the fuel system was opened, it must always be bled before starting the engine.

If the fuel system is not bled, the catalytic converter will be damaged.

Observe the rules for cleanliness. Refer to --> [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Procedure

CAUTION!
Fuel supply line is under pressure! Wear protective goggles and protective clothing to prevent injuries and contact with skin. Before loosening the fuel lines, place a cloth around the connection point. Then release pressure by carefully disconnecting the connection.

- Remove the cap - arrow - for the service port.





- Turn the T-piece on the (VAG 1318/20) counterclockwise until it is completely open.





- Install the (VAG 1318/20-1) onto the (VAG 1318/20).

- Install the (VAG 1318/20) hand tight onto the service port.

- Connect the hose from the (VAS 5226) as shown.





- Turn the T-piece on the (VAG 1318/20) clockwise completely.

- Check the (VAG 1318/20) and hose connection for leaks.

Connect the (VAS 5051B) as follows:

- Connect the diagnostic cable connector - 2 - to the Data Link Connector (DLC) in the driver's footwell.





- Press the following buttons on the display one after another:

Engine Electronics >

Output Diagnostic Test Mode >

- Press > until the fuel pump relay is activated. This activates the fuel pump. Let the diagnostic run until fuel without bubbles runs comes out of the bleeder valve. Then end the output diagnostic test mode.

If the output diagnostic test mode is interrupted, the engine must be started for a short time before the mode can be accessed again. Output diagnostic test mode is automatically cancelled after 60 seconds.

- Turn the T-piece on the (VAG 1318/20) counterclockwise until it is completely open again.





- Clamp the hose of the (VAS 5226) (e.g. using hose clamps (3094)) and disconnect it from the (VAG 1318/20-1).

- Remove the (VAG 1318/20) from the service port.

- Install the cap - arrow - onto the service port.
