Trailing Arm with Mounting Bracket

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque wrench 40-200 Nm (VAG 1332)

• Wheel hub support (T10149)

Removing

- Remove the wheel.

- Remove the coil spring. Refer to--> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Remove bolt - arrow - for the parking brake cable - 1 - from the trailing arm - 2 -.





With a Bracket for the Parking Brake Cable

- Remove the bracket - 1 - by pressing out the rivet inner pin - arrow -.





Continuation for All

- Remove the coupling rod - 1 - from the trailing arm.





- Remove the trailing arm bolts - arrows -.

- Mark the installation position of the mounting bracket to the body.

- Remove the mounting bracket bolts - arrows -.





- Remove the trailing arm with mounting bracket.

The mounting bracket must be removed from the trailing arm if the trailing arm is being replaced.

The installation position of the mounting bracket to the trailing arm must then be adjusted.

Dimension - a - = 34 mm ± 1 mm.

- When dimension - a - is adjusted, tighten bolt.

Installing

The bolt of the trailing arm/wheel bearing housing must only be tightened when all other components (spring and strut always) of the respective wheel suspension have been already assembled. To tighten, the suspension must be unladen. Only now do the trailing arm and wheel bearing housing move into the position required - arrows -.

Always follow the order of the following work steps!

- Install the trailing arm and mounting bracket with bolts - 2 - to the wheel bearing housing but do not yet tighten.





- Install the coupling rod - 3 - to the trailing arm, but do not tighten the nut yet.

- Lift the suspension using the (VAG 1383A) and the (T10149) until the mounting bracket contacts the body.

- Tighten the mounting bracket bolts - arrows - to the previous marking.





- Lower the suspension using the (VAG 1383A) and remove the (T10149) from the wheel hub.

- Tighten the bolts - 2 - for the trailing arm to specifications, make sure the components are in the required position when doing this. Refer to --> [ Position: Threaded Connection of Trailing Arm/Wheel Bearing Housing ]





- Install the coupling rod - 1 - to the wheel bearing housing and stabilizer bar.





- Install the parking brake cable - 1 - bracket to the trailing arm - 2 - and install bolt - arrow -.





With a Bracket for the Parking Brake Cable

- Install the bracket - 1 - by pressing in the new rivet inner pin - arrow -.





Continuation for All

- Install the coil spring. Refer to --> [ Coil Spring ] Coil Spring.

- Install the wheel and tighten. Refer to --> [ Wheel Bolt Tightening Specification ] .

- Perform a vehicle alignment. Refer to --> [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
