Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position
Wheel Bearing Housing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine and transmission jack (VAG 1383A)
• Tensioning strap (T10038)
• Wheel hub support (T10149)
CAUTION!
All bolts for the suspension parts with bonded rubber bushings must always be tightened in curb weight position (unloaded condition).
Bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent.
Parts with bonded rubber bushings must therefore be brought into a position that corresponds to the position in driving mode before being tightened (curb weight position)
Otherwise, the bonded rubber bushing will be stressed resulting in a shortened service life.
By raising the appropriate suspension corner using the (VAG 1383A) and the (T10149), this position can be simulated with the vehicle still on the hoist.
Before the appropriate suspension corner is raised, the vehicle must be strapped to the hoist lift arms using (T10038).
CAUTION!
If the vehicle is not secured, there is danger that the vehicle could slip off the hoist!
- Turn the wheel hub far enough until one of the holes for the wheel bolts is on top.
- Install the (T10149) with a wheel bolt onto the wheel hub.
Tightening of respective bolts/nuts must only be performed when dimension - a - between wheel hub center and lower edge of wheel housing is reached.
Dimension - a - is dependent on standing height of installed suspension:
1) The suspension that the vehicle is equipped with is indicated on the vehicle data plate. Suspension is represented by the Product Relevant (PR) number. For PR numbers and assigned suspensions, refer to --> [ Vehicle Data Label ] Vehicle Data Label.
- Using the (VAG 1383A), lift the wheel bearing housing until dimension - a - has been reached.
CAUTION!
• Do not lift or lower the vehicle with the (VAG 1383A) below the vehicle.
• Do not leave (VAG 1383A) below the vehicle any longer than necessary.
- Tighten the respective bolts/nuts.
- Lower the wheel bearing housing.
- Remove the (VAG 1383A) from under the vehicle.
- Remove the (T10149).
