Shift Unit, Servicing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Tube (T10203)

Tube (VW 423)

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)





1 Shift unit

Consists of shift shaft and shift cover

The components cannot be separated from each other

2 Back-up light switch (F4)

Tighten to 20 Nm

Lightly coat tab with MoS2 grease

3 Locking pin

For adjustment of shift mechanism

Removing --> [ Removing locking pin from shift cover ]

Installing --> [ Pressing locking pin into selector cover ]

4 Relay lever

Installation position --> [ Installation position of transmission shift lever/relay lever ] Service and Repair

5 Bushing

6 Seal

Pry out using screwdriver

Installing --> [ Drive in sealing ring to stop. ]

7 Hex nut, 23 Nm

Self-locking

Always replace

8 Transmission shift lever

Insert so that master spline aligns with shift rod

Can be replaced with the shift mechanism installed

Installation position --> [ Installation position of transmission shift lever/relay lever ] Service and Repair

9 Cap

For transmission breather

10 Lock washer

11 Sealing cap

12 Spring

Not installed on all transmissions

Re-install if present

Removing locking pin - A - from shift cover





- Remove outer part of the locking pin

- Then carefully pry out locking pin using a screwdriver.

Pressing locking pin - A - into selector cover





Installation position:

The marking - arrow - faces toward upper part of selector shaft

Drive in sealing ring to stop.
