Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Tube (T10203)
• Tube (VW 423)
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
1 Shift unit
• Consists of shift shaft and shift cover
• The components cannot be separated from each other
2 Back-up light switch (F4)
• Tighten to 20 Nm
• Lightly coat tab with MoS2 grease
3 Locking pin
• For adjustment of shift mechanism
• Removing --> [ Removing locking pin from shift cover ]
• Installing --> [ Pressing locking pin into selector cover ]
4 Relay lever
• Installation position --> [ Installation position of transmission shift lever/relay lever ] Service and Repair
5 Bushing
6 Seal
• Pry out using screwdriver
• Installing --> [ Drive in sealing ring to stop. ]
7 Hex nut, 23 Nm
• Self-locking
• Always replace
8 Transmission shift lever
• Insert so that master spline aligns with shift rod
• Can be replaced with the shift mechanism installed
• Installation position --> [ Installation position of transmission shift lever/relay lever ] Service and Repair
9 Cap
• For transmission breather
10 Lock washer
11 Sealing cap
12 Spring
• Not installed on all transmissions
• Re-install if present
Removing locking pin - A - from shift cover
- Remove outer part of the locking pin
- Then carefully pry out locking pin using a screwdriver.
Pressing locking pin - A - into selector cover
Installation position:
The marking - arrow - faces toward upper part of selector shaft
Drive in sealing ring to stop.
