Telematics

CAUTION!
Prior to working on the electrical system:

• Obtain the radio system anti-theft code.

• Switch off all electrical consumers.

• Switch off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

• Disconnect the battery.

CAUTION!
• OnStar(R) stopped supporting all analog Telematics systems on 12/31/2007.

• Do not attempt to receive Telematics service after 12/31/2007.

• The Telematics system was installed from model year 2004 to model year 2005.

The Telematics system is a vehicle-integrated system. Upon customer request, Volkswagen Telematics by OnStar call center can remotely perform or activate vehicle functions. Cellular telephones and GPS are used.

Telematics services for Volkswagen customers are provided by the OnStar Call Center. For details, refer to Volkswagen Telematics by OnStar Owner`s Manual.

The Telematics system can also be controlled by voice. Refer to the Operating Instructions.

Upon customer request, the OnStar Call Center can remotely perform or activate the following vehicle functions:

• Lock vehicle

• Unlock vehicle

• Switch on hazard warning lights of vehicle

• Switch on horn of vehicle

If the airbag is deployed during a crash, this is registered in the Telematics Control Module (J499), hazard lights are automatically switched on and all doors are unlocked via the door control modules. In addition, an automatic emergency call is placed to the OnStar Call Center. The center will then try to communicate directly with the driver and discuss and arrange rescue measures. If the driver does not answer to the call, measurements for rescue are started automatically by the OnStar Call Center.

Using Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology, the Telematics center can determine the location of the vehicle. The OnStar Call Center can determine the present vehicle location.

The GPS receiver is integrated in the Telematics control module.

Communication between the driver in the vehicle and the OnStar Call Center takes place via telephone; its sender and receiver are also integrated in the Telematics control module.
