Safety precautions when working on anti-roll protection
CAUTION!
• The anti-roll protection to be deployed may cause injuries if people remain in the area of deployment.
• Therefore no persons may be in the vehicle and in deployment area of anti-roll protection (maintain a minimum distance of 1 m) during the expanded output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
• Make sure that your hand is not located on the activation lever when anti-roll protection is slid on, danger of injury!
• Do not allow any objects to fall into outlet openings of the deployed anti-roll protection. If that should be the case, anti-roll protection must not be slid in under any circumstances.
• If anti-roll protection does not engage properly, there is a danger of injury by an unexpected deployment of anti-roll protection.
• DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) must be checked and erased beforehand.
• Perform function test "Reset deployment of anti-roll bar".
Test conditions
• Deployment of anti-roll protection must occur within 60 seconds after switching ignition on. If time is exceeded, the function "Deploying anti-roll protection" is locked by the vehicle system.
• Accordingly, only 1 test per "cycle" (ignition on) can be performed.
• The following function test must only be performed when convertible top has been opened.
- Open convertible top, => [ Convertible Top Protective Cover, Cabriolet, Removing ] Convertible Top Protective Cover, Cabriolet, Removing.
Rollover Protection, Activating using VAS 5051A
- Connect Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 A).
- Touch the "GUIDED FUNCTIONS" field/button on the screen - arrow -.
If the steps shown in the procedure are not shown on the display, see the operating instructions for the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (5051 A).
- Press > button to confirm.
- Select in succession:
• Brand
• Model
• Model Year
• Engine Code
- Confirm vehicle identification.
- Press Continue, > button to confirm.
- Select vehicle system, here "Airbag Cabriolet".
- Select "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)".
- Press Continue, > button to confirm.
- Observe notes and confirm them.
- Follow instructions on the display.
- Slide in anti-roll protection.
Rollover Protection, Retracting
- Push activation lever - 1 - in direction of arrow - A - and hold in this position.
- Then press anti-roll protection downward.
- When anti-roll protection - 2 - has been pressed in approximately 30 cm, activation lever - 1 - can be released and anti-roll protection can be pressed downward completely with force until it engages securely.
- Leave convertible top opened for a visual inspection for end position of convertible top locking mechanism => [ Power Convertible Top End Position Locking Mechanism, Inspecting ] Power Convertible Top End Position Locking Mechanism, Inspecting.
- Check DTC memory of Engine Control Module (ECM) and then erase it.
