Front Exhaust Pipes with Catalytic Converters and Front Mufflers

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Removing

- Remove the suction jet pump from the intake manifold, if applicable. Refer to => [ Suction Jet Pump Overview ] One Piece Intake Manifold.

- Remove the intake manifold, refer to one of the following:

One piece intake manifold, refer to => [ Intake Manifold ] One Piece Intake Manifold.

Two piece intake manifold, refer to => [ Upper Intake Manifold ] Two Piece Intake Manifold.

- Remove the heat shield with the intake manifold support.

- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) (G39) and Heated oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 (G108). Refer to => [ Heated Oxygen Sensor and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 ] Heated Oxygen Sensor and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2.

- Remove the front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold nuts - arrows -.





- Disconnect the connectors - 2 and 4 - for the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130) and HO2S 2 behind TWC (G131).





- Free up the electrical wires to oxygen sensors.

Do not bend the decoupling elements of the exhaust pipes more than 20° or they could be damaged. Two technicians are needed to perform the removing procedure.

- Remove the exhaust system suspended mount bolts - arrows -.





- Disconnect the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve - arrows -.





- Remove the front exhaust pipe with the catalytic converters and front mufflers from the exhaust manifold.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Replace gaskets and self locking nuts.
