Multi-Function Transmission Range Switch, Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
Installation is in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:
- Connect multi-function switch - 4 - to shift rod - 6 -.
- Hand-tighten securing bolts - 5 - for multi-function switch.
- Bend hooks of locking washer - 2 - back.
- Install washers - 2 - and - 3 - onto shift rod - 6 -.
- Attach washer - 2 - with hooks facing upward.
- Insert washer - 2 - with long and thin guides into long and narrow depressions in shift rod - 6 -.
- Tighten nut - 1 - to 7 Nm.
- Secure nut - 1 - by bending hooks of locking washer upward - 2 -.
- Replace locking washer if hooks are broken off.
- Attach lever - 3 - onto shift rod - 4 -.
- Shift transmission to position "P" using lever - 3 -, i.e. push lever - 3 - rearward against direction of travel until stop.
- Shift transmission to position "N" using lever - 3 -. To do so, press lever - 3 - two latched positions toward front in direction of travel.
- Install spring washer - 2 - and nut - 1 - on shift rod - 4 -.
- Tighten nut - 1 - to 13 Nm.
Vehicles with 6 cyl. gasoline engine
- Install engine coolant expansion tank.
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) cable with ignition switched off.
