Suction Jet Pump, Removing and Installing

Suction Jet Pump, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Wrench for tank sensor (3087)

Torque wrench (40 to 200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

On vehicles with all-wheel drive the shape of the fuel tank dictates that a suction jet pump unit is required to pump fuel to the fuel delivery unit from the area of the fuel level sensor 2 (G169).

To remove the suction jet pump, the fuel delivery unit must be removed first.

A test must only be performed, if the engine stops running due to lack of gasoline, even though the fuel gauge indicates the fuel tank is 1/4 full.

Removing

- Remove seat bench => Body Interior 72 Rear seats; removing and installing seat bench.

- Remove fuel delivery unit => [ Fuel Delivery Unit, Removing and Installing ] Fuel Delivery Unit, Removing and Installing.

- Remove left cover (when viewed from direction of travel) from Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169).

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the left flange.

- Open the locking ring using wrench (3087).

- Slightly lift the Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) together with the suction jet pump and remove the sealing ring from the opening in the fuel tank.

- Pull Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) together with the suction jet pump out of the fuel tank.

- Check that the fuel hoses/lines on suction jet pump are installed securely and are not damaged.

- Additionally check suction jet pump for contamination/dirt if necessary.

Installing

CAUTION!
Do not bend the Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) floater arm when installing.

- Install Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) together with the suction jet pump in the fuel tank.

- Insert new seal for flange, dry, into opening of fuel tank and coat only the inner side (equipment flange) with fuel.

- Note Fuel Level Sensor 2 (G169) installation location => [ Fuel delivery unit flange and position ]

- Check sealing ring for correct positioning.

- Tighten locking ring using special wrench for tank sensor (3087). Tightening Specifications 110 Nm.

The rest of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedures.
