Battery Interrupt Igniter

CAUTION!
• Vehicles with battery in luggage compartment is equipped with a battery isolator to increase crash safety. In the event of a collision, the airbag control module triggers a separation, which disrupts the power supply wiring to the starter and to the engine electronics. The battery cut-off takes place pyrotechnically through a very small explosive charge. To prevent accidentally triggering a separation when working on the battery or battery cut-off, you must first disconnect the battery. • Observe safety precautions when working on battery isolation system. Refer to => [ Battery Interrupt Igniter, Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

• Observe notes for disposal of battery isolator units. Refer to => [ Battery Interrupt Igniter Disposal ] Battery Interrupt Igniter Disposal.

Depending on equipment, Battery Interrupt Igniter is installed in luggage compartment in conjunction with starter battery and is integrated into rear right main fuse panel F. Main fuse panel F is located under formed tool kit insert and vehicle jack.

• Before disconnecting battery, retrieve code for radio units with anti-theft coding.

• When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the repair information. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

• If battery cut-off is deployed, Battery Interrupt Igniter must be replaced.
