Removing







Disable the airbag system before attempting any component diagnosis or service of the front seats, when equipped with front seat air bags. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Remove the inoperative front seat assembly. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Remove the flex drive cable cover (2).

- Using a small flat bladed tool, release the strap (1) securing the flex drive cable cover (2) to the motor (5).

- Pivot the cover away from the cable and pull it away from the seat frame (4) to disengage the cover slot from the tab (3).






- Remove the flex drive cable.

- Carefully bend the flex drive cable at the center and pull the motor end (3) away from the motor (1) to disengage.

- Pull the cable out of the screw drive assembly (2) and remove from the seat track.






- Disconnect the motor electrical connector.

- Remove the motor to bracket screws (1).

- Remove the motor (3).

- Remove the short flex drive cable (2) from the seat frame assembly (4).

Installing


Seat track side to side timing may be off if the fore aft motor was completely inoperative prior to removal. In the event the track timing is in question, proceed to for track timing procedure. If track timing is not in question proceed to.

- Using the square drive end of the old flex drive cable and a variable speed drill motor, drive the seat track screw drive assemblies reward until they reach the rear stops.

- Clamp one end of the old cable into the drill motor chuck.

- Put the other cable end into the seat track screw drive cable slot and slowly drive the seat track reward until it reaches the rear stops. Take care not to bind the cable when the drive reaches the stop.

- Repeat this procedure for the other seat track.






- Install the short flex drive cable (2) into the seat frame assembly (4). Ensure the square cable end is properly aligned and fully inserted into the square drive slot of the screw drive.

- Install the motor (3) ensuring the square cable end is properly aligned and fully inserted into the square drive slot of the motor.

- Install the motor screws (1). Tighten the screws to 5 Nm (45 in lbs).






- Install the flex drive cable.

- Install the flex drive cable into the seat frame (2). Ensure the square cable end is properly aligned and fully inserted into the square drive slot of the screw drive.

- Install the flex drive cable into the motor (1). Ensure the square cable end is properly aligned and fully inserted into the square drive slot of the motor (3).






- Position the flex drive cable cover (2) onto the seat track (4). Ensure the cover slots are properly aligned and fully inserted onto the mounting tabs (3).

- Pivot the cable cover towards the cable and onto the motor (5).

- Secure the cover to the motor with the strap (1).

- Connect the motor electrical connector.

- Install the power seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Connect the negative battery cable.

- Verify proper power seat operation.
