Seat Back


Disable the airbag system before attempting any component diagnosis or service of the front seats, when equipped with front seat air bags. Disconnect the negative battery cable, then wait two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the airbag system. Failure to take the proper precautions may result in accidental airbag deployment and possible serious or fatal injury.

Removing






- Remove the seat from the vehicle and place it on a workbench. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.

- Remove the inboard seat cushion side shield. Refer to => [ Seat Cushion Side Shield, Inboard ] Seat Cushion Side Shield, Inboard.

- Remove the plastic seat back cover. Refer to => [ Seat Back Panel ] Seat Back Panel.

- Disengage the J hooks (1) securing the seat bottom closeout (2) to the rear of the seat back frame (3) and position the closeout out of the way.

- Disconnect the wire harness connector from the power recliner motor, if equipped with power recliner.

- Disconnect the seat back wire harness connector at the rear of the seat cushion, if equipped with heated seats.

- Remove the bolts (2) securing each seat back hinge (1) to the seat track (3).

- Remove the seat back from the seat track.

Installing






- Install the seat back to the seat track (3).

- Install the bolts (2) securing the seat back hinges to the seat tracks. Tighten the bolts to 48 Nm (35 ft lbs).






- Connect the seat back wire harness connector, if equipped with heated seats.

- Connect the power recliner motor wire harness connector, if equipped with power recliner.

- Reposition the seat bottom closeout (2) to the seat back frame (3) and engage the J hooks (1) that secure the closeout to the frame.

- Install the plastic seat back cover. Refer to => [ Seat Back Panel ] Seat Back Panel.

- Install the inboard seat cushion side shield. Refer to => [ Seat Cushion Side Shield, Inboard ] Seat Cushion Side Shield, Inboard.

- Install the seat. Refer to => [ Seat ] Seat.
