HVAC Actuator Calibration Procedure

HVAC Actuator Calibration Procedure

The purpose of actuator calibration is to determine the total span of door travel between physical stops. To calibrate the actuator, the A/C heater control first moves the door to its soft stop, and then counts the number of pulses it takes to move the door to its other stop. An expected range of span is stored in the A/C Heater control's memory. If the measured calibration value is less than, or greater than the expected range for any of the actuators, then a DTC will be set. Note that the HVAC control head clears all stored calibration faults at the beginning of the calibration procedure, so it is important to record any DTCs before beginning.

Test Step 1 - Perform the Manual HVAC Actuator Calibration Procedure

On the manual HVAC system there are two ways the door actuators can be calibrated. Both procedures are listed below.

If the A/C heater control is replaced it will go into automatic calibration upon power up and the A/C heater control recognizes a new VIN. If the key is turned off before the control finishes calibration it will complete on the next key cycle. Note: This "auto calibration" will only occur if the controller receives a new VIN. Once an A/C heater control receives a VIN it can not be cleared. Calibration will need to be done with the scan tool using the procedure described below.

The actuators can be calibrated by sending a command with the scan tool, by selecting System Tests and then select Actuator Calibration Test.

Does the door actuator operate normally?

Yes

The conditions that originally set this DTC are no longer present. Perform the HVAC Verification Test. Refer to => [ HVAC Verification Test ] HVAC Verification Test.

No

Repair not complete, perform the appropriate diagnostic procedure.

Test Step 2 - Perform the Automatic HVAC Actuator Calibration Procedure

On the automatic HVAC system there are three ways the door actuators can be calibrated. All three procedures are listed below.

Calibration will need to be done using one of the two procedures described below.

The actuators can be calibrated by performing a procedure through the A/C heater control buttons. 1. Ensure that the Ignition is turned on. 2. Press and hold the SYNC and AUTO buttons for 5 seconds. When the calibration starts the RECIRC indicator will flash. When the calibration is complete the RECIRC indicator will stop.

The actuators can be calibrated by sending a command with the scan tool, by selecting System Tests and then select Actuator Calibration Test.
