Fuel Pump: Service and Repair
Fuel Pump Module
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Fuel Pump Lock Ring Wrench (9340)
Removing
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.
- Disconnect electrical connector (1) from fuel pump module (3).
- Disconnect the fuel line quick connect fitting (2) from fuel pump module (3).
Clean the area around fuel pump module prior to removal. Make sure this area is free of dirt. Failure to clean the fuel pump area prior to removal may cause dirt to get into the fuel tank causing damage to the fuel system and/or engine.
- Clean the area around the fuel pump module with a suitable cleaner and dry with low pressure filtered compressed air.
- Install the fuel pump lock ring wrench (9340) (1) and turn counterclockwise in order to unlock the fuel pump module lock ring (2).
- Remove the fuel pump lock ring wrench (9340) (1) and lock ring from the fuel tank.
- Remove the fuel pump module from the fuel tank.
Installing
- Install a new fuel pump module O-ring into the fuel tank groove.
The fuel pump module must be installed correctly in order to prevent damage to the fuel pump module.
- Line up the fuel pump module mounting tab to the arrow on the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel pump module lock ring over the fuel pump module.
- Install the fuel pump lock ring wrench (9340), and turn the lock ring (2) clockwise until the lock ring (1) is seated and locked to fuel tank.
- Connect the fuel line quick connect fitting (2) to fuel pump module (3).
- Connect the electrical connector (1) to fuel pump module (3).
- Install the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.
