Control Arm: Service and Repair






Lower Control Arm

Removing

- Raise and support vehicle.






- Remove wheel mounting nuts (3), then tire and wheel assembly (1).

- Remove steering knuckle. Refer to => [ Steering Knuckle ] Steering Knuckle.






If left side lower control arm is being serviced, perform the following:

- Remove front and rear engine mount thru-bolts (4 - front shown - rear similar).

- Rotate the lower portion of the engine and transmission forward.

- With the engine and transmission in this position, perform the next step.






- Remove front bolt (1) attaching lower control arm (2) to crossmember (4).

- Remove rear bolt (3) and nut attaching lower control arm (2) to crossmember (4).

- Remove lower control arm (2).

Installing






- Position lower control arm (2) into brackets on suspension crossmember (4).

- Install front mounting bolt (1) and rear mounting bolt (2) and nut attaching lower control arm to crossmember.

Do not tighten front bolt (1) at this time.

- Tighten rear mounting bolt nut to 155 Nm (114 ft lbs).






- If left side lower control arm is being serviced, reinstall front and rear engine mount thru-bolts (4 - front shown - rear similar).

- Install steering knuckle, brake rotor and caliper. Refer to => [ Steering Knuckle ] Steering Knuckle.






- Install tire and wheel assembly (1). Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft lbs).

- Lower vehicle.

- Position vehicle on alignment rack/drive-on hoist. Raise hoist as necessary to access mounting bolts.






- At curb height, tighten front lower control arm mounting bolt (1) to 155 Nm (114 ft lbs).

- Perform wheel alignment.
