Condition
Amplifier Noise while using IPOD with Universal Cable Interface (UCI) Port
When playing an IPOD thru the UCI, distortion is audible.
Technical Background
Customers may experience music sounding severely distorted when playing an IPOD thru the UCI with premium audio system cause by an issue in the amplifier software. All other features of the audio system operate and sound normal.

This Bulletin involves updating the Amplifier software.

Procedure
Using the Internet to retrieve the flash file:
TIP:
- The StarMOBILE(TM) in stand alone mode can be used for programming.
- Before performing this Repair Procedure, the operating software in the StarMOBILE(R); must be programmed with software release level 9.05 or higher. The software release level is visible in the blue header at the top of the StarMOBILE(R) screen.
- The StarMOBILE(R) diagnostic scan tool fully supports Internet connectivity. However, to take advantage of this feature you must first configure the StarMOBILE(R) for your dealership's network. Make sure the StarMOBILE(R) is configured to the dealership's network before proceeding. For instruction on setting up your StarMOBILE(R) for the dealer's network, refer to the setup instructions supplied with the scan tool.
1. Install Midtronics Battery tester/charger (INC-940) and verify that the charging rate provides approximately 13.5 volts. Set the battery charger to continuous charge. DO NOT allow the charger to time out during the programming process. Remove the charger from the battery when the programming process is complete.
TIP:
If this programming process is interrupted or aborted, the programming should be restarted.
2. Connect the StarMOBILE(R) Ethernet cable to the StarMOBILE (R) and the dealer's network.
3. Connect the StarMOBILE (R) vehicle cable to the StarMOBILE (R) and the vehicle data link connector (DLC).
4. Power ON the StarMOBILE (R).
5. Switch vehicle ignition ON.
6. Select "ECU View"
7. Touch the screen to highlight the Amplifier in the list of modules.
8. Select "More Options"
9. Select "ECU Flash".
10. Record the "Part Number", displayed on the "Flash AMP" screen, for later reference.
11. Select "Browse for New File", follow on screen instructions.
12. Highlight listed AMP calibration.
13. Select "Download to Scan Tool"
14. Select "Close" after download is complete, and then select "Back".
15. Select "Update Controller". Follow on screen instructions.
16. When AMP update is complete, select "OK".
17. Verify the part number changed at the top of the "Flash Amplifier" screen.
18. Verify proper operation of the Amplifier.
NOTE:
Due to the Amplifier programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules (ECM, TIPM, WIN, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's may cause the MIL to illuminate. From the Home screen select "System View". Then select "All DTC's". Press "Clear All Stored DTC's" if there are any DTC's shown on the list.
