B1B55

B1B55 - 1st Row Passenger Seat Belt Sensor Circuit High

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

Theory of Operation

When powered, the occupant restraint controller sends a test current to the belt switches to verify the integrity of the switch and wiring. The use of the ORC connector adapter tool in the tests below provides a test point in place of the module.

When Monitored: The ORC monitors the status of the seat belt switch circuits at power up and every 60 ms thereafter while the ignition is in on.

Set Condition: This DTC sets when the ORC detects the seat belt switch circuits have become shorted to voltage for more than 2.5 seconds. This DTC transitions from active to stored when the module sees a recovery from the shorted to voltage condition for greater than 5 seconds.

Always perform the Pre - Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.

Test Step 1 - Determine Active or Stored DTC

Ensure the battery is fully charged.

Turn the ignition ON.

With the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.

Is the DTC active or stored?

ORC - Active DTC

Go to Test Step 2 => [ Test Step 2 - Check for Additional Active Sensor DTCs ]

ORC - Stored DTC

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

Test Step 2 - Check for Additional Active Sensor DTCs

With the scan tool, read all active ORC DTCs.

Are DTCs B1B8E - Driver Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit High and B1B94 - Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit High Active?

Yes

Repair or replace the ground circuit for an open.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

No

Go to Test Step 3 => [ Test Step 3 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Sense Circuit for
a Short to Voltage ]

Test Step 3 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Sense Circuit for a Short to Voltage

Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Disconnect the passenger seat belt - buckle tensioner/switch connector.

Disconnect the ORC connectors.

Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

Connect the load tool ORC 8443 - 28 Adaptor to the ORC connectors.

Turn the ignition ON, then reconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Measure the voltage of the passenger seat belt switch sense circuit between the load tool ORC 8443 - 28 adaptor and ground.

Is there any voltage present on the circuit?

Yes

Repair or replace the passenger seat belt switch sense circuit for a short to voltage.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

If the short is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

No

Go to Test Step 4 => [ Test Step 4 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit for
a Short to Voltage ]

Test Step 4 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit for a Short to Voltage

Measure the voltage of the passenger seat belt switch return circuit between the load tool ORC 8443 - 28 adaptor and ground.

Is there any voltage present on the circuit?

Yes

Repair or replace the passenger seat belt switch return circuit for a short to voltage.

No

Go to Test Step 5 => [ Test Step 5 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Sense Circuit for
an Open ]

Test Step 5 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Sense Circuit for an Open

Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Measure the resistance of the passenger seat belt switch sense circuit between the passenger seat belt - buckle tensioner/switch connector and the load tool ORC 8443 - 28 adaptor.

Is the resistance below 1.0 ohm?

Yes

Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit for
an Open ]

No

Repair or replace the passenger seat belt switch sense circuit for an open. Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit for
an Open ]

If the open is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

Test Step 6 - Check Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit for an Open

Measure the resistance of the passenger seat belt switch return circuit between the passenger seat belt - buckle tensioner/switch connector and the load tool ORC 8443 - 28 adaptor.

Is the resistance below 1.0 ohm?

Yes

Replace the ORC..
