B1B90 - Driver Seat Track Position Sensor Circuit Shorted Together

For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

Theory of Operation

When powered, the occupant restraint controller sends a test current to the seat track position sensors to verify the integrity of the sensor and wiring. The use of the ORC connector adapter tool in the tests below provides a test point in place of the module.

When Monitored: The ORC monitors the status of the seat position sensor circuits continuously.

Set Condition: If the module detects that the sensor current is shorted together with a value above I ≥ 17.1 ~ 20.5 mA, or shorted to ground with a value of < 5K Ohm.

Always perform the Pre - Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding.

Test Step 1 - Determine Active or Stored DTC

Ensure the battery is fully charged.

Turn the ignition ON.

With the scan tool, read ORC DTCs.

Is the DTC active or stored?

ORC - Active DTC

Go to Test Step 2 => [ Test Step 2 - Inspect Driver Seat Harness Wires and Connectors ]

ORC - Stored DTC

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

Test Step 2 - Inspect Driver Seat Harness Wires and Connectors

Turn the ignition OFF, disconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the driver seat harness wiring and connectors. Look for chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires and broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals.

Are any of these conditions present?

Yes

Replace the driver seat harness.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

Do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness if any of these conditions exist.

No

Go to Test Step 3 => [ Test Step 3 - Verify that the Driver Seat Harness is Routed Correctly ]

Test Step 3 - Verify that the Driver Seat Harness is Routed Correctly

Verify that the driver seat harness is routed correctly.

Is the Driver Seat Harness routed correctly?

Yes

Go to Test Step 4 => [ Test Step 4 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Data Circuit for
a Short to Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit ]

No

Reroute the driver seat harness as necessary.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

Test Step 4 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Data Circuit for a Short to Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit

Disconnect the driver seat track position sensor connector.

Disconnect the ORC connectors.

Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

Connect the load tool 8443 ORC adaptor to the ORC connectors.

Measure the resistance between the driver seat position sensor data circuit and the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit at the load tool 8443 ORC Adaptor.

Is the resistance below 5K Ohms?

Yes

Repair or replace the driver seat position sensor data circuit for a short to the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

If the short is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

No

Go to Test Step 5 => [ Test Step 5 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for
a Short to Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor Signal Circuit ]

Test Step 5 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for a Short to Passenger Seat Track Position Sensor Signal Circuit

Measure the resistance between the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit and the passenger seat track position sensor signal circuit at the load tool 8443 ORC adaptor.

Is the resistance below 5K Ohms?

Yes

Repair or replace the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit for a short to the passenger seat track position sensor signal circuit.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

If the short is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

No

Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for
a Short to Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit ]

Test Step 6 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for a Short to Passenger Seat Belt Switch Return Circuit

Measure the resistance between the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit and the passenger seat belt switch return circuit at the load tool 8443 ORC adaptor.

Is the resistance below 5K ohms?

Yes

Repair or replace the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit for a short to the passenger seat belt switch return circuit.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

If the short is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

No

Go to Test Step 7 => [ Test Step 7 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for
a Short to Ground ]

Test Step 7 - Check Driver Seat Position Sensor Voltage Circuit for a Short to Ground

Measure the resistance of the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit between ground and the load tool 8443 ORC Adaptor.

Is the resistance below 5K ohms on either circuit?

Yes

Repair or replace the driver seat position sensor voltage circuit for a short to ground.

Perform the Restraints System Intermittent Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. ORC Restraints System Intermittent Test

If the short is found in the seat harness, do not attempt to repair the seat harness. Replace the seat harness.

No

Go to Test Step 8 => [ Test Step 8 - Check Operation of the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor ]

Test Step 8 - Check Operation of the Driver Seat Track Position Sensor

Replace the driver seat track position sensor.

Reconnect the vehicle body harness to the sensor.

Reconnect the ORC connectors.

Turn the ignition ON, then reconnect the 12 volt battery and wait two minutes before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

Connect the scan tool to the DLC - use the most current software available.

Use the scan tool and erase all codes in the ORC.
