B1E50 - 3rd Row Seat Right Stow/Tailgate Control Circuit Performance






For a complete wiring diagram, refer to.

When Monitored: Whenever the right stow/tailgate motor is activated.

Set Condition: If the folding seat module does not detect seat motor rotation from the motor position sensor after a switch activation input.






Test Step 1 - Check For Related Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Turn the ignition ON.

With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display seat position sensor DTC?

Yes

Diagnose and repair the other DTCs first. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics.

No

Go to Test Step 2 => [ Test Step 2 - Inspect Seat Mechanical Operation ]

Test Step 2 - Inspect Seat Mechanical Operation

Gain access to and inspect the following components:

Inspect for broken seat welds.

Inspect for broken frame.

Inspect each seat leg latch micro switch for proper mechanical operation.

Check seat leg latch mechanical operation by manually closing and releasing each latch and note any sticking, wear, or damage.

Check seat leg for binding or an object or obstruction in latch striker pocket.

Manually operate the latch release actuator and check for any binding in the latch release cable system.

Were any problems found?

No

Go to Test Step 3 => [ Test Step 3 - Test for Intermittent Condition ]

Yes

Repair or replace components as necessary.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 3 - Test for Intermittent Condition

With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.

Activate the seat switch of the affected positions three times.

With the scan tool, read DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC as active?

Yes

Go to Test Step 3 => [ Test Step 3 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply Circuit
Voltage ]

No

The condition that caused this symptom is currently not present. Check for an intermittent condition by inspecting the related wiring harness for chafed, pierced, pinched, and partially broken wires. Also, inspect the related connectors for broken, bent, pushed out, spread, corroded, or contaminated terminals. Repair as necessary.

Test Step 4 - Check the Right Seat Stow Position Sensor Supply Circuit Voltage At In - Line






Turn the ignition OFF.

Disconnect the C391 power folding rear seat 16 way in - line harness connector.

Check connectors - Clean and repair as necessary.

Connect a voltmeter between the right seat stow position sensor supply circuit and the right seat back position sensor return circuit at the 16 way in - line harness connector.

With the folding seat switch select the right seat.

Depress the stow position switch.

Is the voltage 10.0 volts?

Yes

Go to Test Step 4 => [ Test Step 4 - Check the Right Seat Back Forward Driver Circuit Voltage
At In - Line ]

No

Go to Test Step 10 => [ Test Step 10 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply Circuit
for an Open ]

Test Step 5 - Check the Right Seat Motor Stow Driver Circuit Voltage At In - Line






Using a 12 volt test light connect one lead to the right seat motor stow driver circuit at the in - line harness connector and the other lead to ground.

With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.

Light should flash On with second button press.

Does the test light flash On momentarily?

Yes

Go to Test Step 5 => [ Test Step 5 - Check the Right Seat Back Rearward Driver Circuit Voltage
At In - Line ]

No

Go to Test Step 12 => [ Test Step 12 - Check the Right Seat Back Motor Forward Driver Circuit
for an Open ]

Test Step 6 - Check the Right Seat Motor Unstow Driver Circuit Voltage At In - Line






Using a 12 volt test light connect one lead to the right seat motor unstow driver circuit at the in - line harness connector and the other lead to ground.

With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.

Does the test light flash On momentarily?

Yes

Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Check the Right Seat Back Forward Driver Circuit Voltage
At Motor ]

No

Go to Test Step 13 => [ Test Step 13 - Check the Right Seat Back Motor Rearward Driver Circuit
for an Open ]

Test Step 7 - Check the Right Seat Motor Stow Driver Circuit Voltage At Motor






Reconnect the in - line connector.

Disconnect the right power rear folding seat stow motor connector.

Using a 12 volt test light connect one lead to the right seat motor stow driver circuit at the motor connector and the other lead to ground.

With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.

Does the test light flash On momentarily?

Yes

Go to Test Step 7 => [ Test Step 7 - Check the Right Seat Back Rearward Driver Circuit Voltage
At Motor ]

No

Repair the open right seat motor stow driver circuit back to the in - line connector.

Test Step 8 - Check the Right Seat Stow Unstow Driver Circuit Voltage At Motor






Using a 12 volt test light connect one lead to the right seat motor unstow driver circuit at the seat motor harness connector and the other lead to ground.

With the right seat selected at the folding seat switch, depress any folding seat button twice then alternate to a different button and depress it twice.

Does the test light flash On momentarily?

Yes

Go to Test Step 8 => [ Test Step 8 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Supply Circuit
Voltage At Motor ]

No

Repair the open right seat motor unstow driver circuit back to the in - line connector.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 9 - Check the Right Seat Stow Position Sensor Supply Circuit Voltage At Motor






Connect a voltmeter between the right seat stow position sensor supply circuit and the right seat back position sensor return circuit at the seat motor harness connector.

With the folding seat switch select the right seat.

Depress the stow position switch.

Is the voltage 10.0 volts?

Yes

Replace the motor assembly.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

No

Go to Test Step 9 => [ Test Step 9 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Circuit for
an Open ]

Test Step 10 - Check the Right Seat Stow Position Sensor Circuit for an Open






Disconnect the C391 power folding rear seat 16 way in - line harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the right seat back position sensor supply circuit between the seat motor harness connector and the in - line harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?

Yes

Repair the right seat back position sensor return circuit for an open.

No

Repair the right seat stow position sensor supply circuit for an open.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 11 - Check the Right Seat Stow Position Sensor Supply Circuit for an Open






Disconnect the folding seat module C3 harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the right seat stow position sensor supply circuit between the folding seat module C3 harness connector and the in - line harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?

Yes

Go to Test Step 11 => [ Test Step 11 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return Circuit
for an Open ]

No

Repair the right seat stow position sensor supply circuit for an open.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 12 - Check the Right Seat Back Position Sensor Return Circuit for an Open






Measure the resistance of the right seat back position sensor return circuit between the folding seat module C3 harness connector and the in - line harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?

Yes

Replace the folding seat module.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

No

Repair the right seat back position sensor return circuit for an open.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 13 - Check the Right Seat Motor Stow Driver Circuit for an Open






Disconnect the folding seat module C4 harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the right seat motor stow driver circuit between the in - line harness connector to the folding seat module C4 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?

Yes

Replace the folding seat module.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

No

Repair the right seat motor stow driver circuit for an open.

Perform Power Folding Seat System Verification Test. Refer to => Non - DTC Based Diagnostics. Power Folding Seat System Verification Test

Test Step 14 - Check the Right Seat Motor Unstow Driver Circuit for an Open






Disconnect the folding seat module C4 harness connector.

Measure the resistance of the right seat motor unstow driver circuit between the in - line harness connector and the folding seat module C4 harness connector.

Is the resistance below 3.0 ohms?

Yes

Replace the folding seat module.

No

Repair the right seat motor unstow driver circuit for an open.
