C1083 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Circuit Performance

• When Monitored: With the ignition ON.
• Set Condition: When the anti lock brake module indicates that the pressure valve changes in both directions by more then.87 psi (60 mbar) within 30 ms. Three events are required to set this fault with a minimum three brake applies greater the 40 bar (580 psi).
Test Step 1 - Test for A DTC C0183 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Circuit Performance
• This DTC must be active for the results of this test to be valid.
• Turn the ignition ON.
• With the scan tool, read and record the DTCs.
• With the scan tool, read and record Environmental Data to help identify the conditions in which the DTC was set.
• With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
• Start the engine.
Ensure brake capability is available before road testing.
• Depress the brake pedal with moderate apply pressure and then release.
• With the scan tool, read and record the DTCs.
Does the scan tool display C0183 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Circuit Performance?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 2 => [ Test Step 2 - Test for Pinched Vacuum Supply Line ]
No
• Perform the ABS Intermittent Condition Test. Refer to => Non-DTC Based Diagnostics. ABS Intermittent Condition Test
Test Step 2 - Test for Pinched Vacuum Supply Line
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Test the vacuum supply line to brake booster for a pinched, cut or open hose.
Were any problems found?
Yes
• Repair as necessary.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
No
• Go to Test Step 3 => [ Test Step 3 - Test for Vacuum Pressure Signal Change ]
Test Step 3 - Test for Vacuum Pressure Signal Change
• Turn the ignition ON.
• Remove the vacuum pressure sensor from the booster.
• Connect a vacuum pump to the vacuum pressure sensor.
• Apply vacuum to the vacuum pressure sensor and watch for signal change.
Is the voltage signal changing on the scan tool as vacuum is being applied?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 4 => [ Test Step 4 - Test Brake Booster Test Valve ]
No
• Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit ]
Test Step 4 - Test Brake Booster Test Valve
• Remove the brake booster test valve.
• Apply vacuum to the booster side of the Test valve.
Is the Brake Booster Test Valve holding vacuum?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 5 => [ Test Step 5 - Test Brake Booster ]
No
• Replace brake booster test valve.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC

Test Step 5 - Test Brake Booster
• Reinstall the Brake Booster Test Valve.
• Apply vacuum to the Brake Booster.
Is the brake booster holding vacuum?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 6 => [ Test Step 6 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit ]
No
• Replace brake booster.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC

Test Step 6 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit
• Disconnect the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
• Turn ignition ON.
• Using a voltmeter, measure the voltage of vacuum pressure sensor supply circuit at the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
Is the voltage between 4.75 to 5.2 volts?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 9 => [ Test Step 9 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Return Circuit Open ]
No
• Go to Test Step 7 => [ Test Step 7 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit Open ]
Test Step 7 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit Open
• Turn ignition OFF.
• Disconnect the anti lock module harness connector.
• Measure the resistance of the vacuum pressure sensor supply circuit from the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector to the anti lock brake module harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 8 => [ Test Step 8 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit Short to Ground ]
No
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor supply circuit for an open.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC

Test Step 8 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Supply Circuit Short to Ground
• Measure the resistance between ground and the vacuum pressure sensor supply circuit at the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor supply circuit for a short to ground.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
No
• Replace the anti lock brake module.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
Test Step 9 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Return Circuit Open
• Measure the resistance of the vacuum pressure sensor return circuit from the vacuum pressure harness connector to the anti lock brake module harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 10 => [ Test Step 10 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit ]
No
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor return circuit for an open.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
Test Step 10 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit
• Turn ignition OFF.
• Reconnect the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
• Reconnect the anti lock brake module harness connector.
• Care should be taken to preserve connector seal when back probing the harness connector.
• Back probe vacuum pressure sensor signal at the vacuum pressure sensor.
• Turn ignition ON.
• Measure the voltage of the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit at the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
Is the voltage between.4 volts and 4.5 volts?
Yes
• Replace the anti lock brake module.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC

No
• Go to Test Step 11 => [ Test Step 11 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Voltage ]

• Turn ignition ON.
• Measure the voltage of the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit at the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
Is the voltage greater than 4.5 volts?
Yes
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit for a short to voltage.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC

No
• Go to Test Step 12 => [ Test Step 12 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit Open ]
Test Step 12 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit Open
• Turn ignition OFF.
• Disconnect vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
• Disconnect anti lock brake module harness connector.
• Measure the resistance of the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit from the vacuum pressure sensor to the anti lock brake module harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Go to Test Step 13 => [ Test Step 13 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Ground ]
No
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit for an open.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
Test Step 13 - Vacuum Pressure Sensor Signal Circuit Short to Ground
• Measure the resistance between ground and the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit at the vacuum pressure sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes
• Repair the vacuum pressure sensor signal circuit for a short to ground.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
Based Diagnostics. ABS Verification Test
No
• Replace the vacuum pressure sensor.
• Perform ABS Verification Test. Refer to => Non-DTC
