Front Door Hinge: Service and Repair






Door Hinge

To protect the vehicle finish, apply several layers of masking tape on the front edges of the door and the front fender prior to loosening the hinges.

Removing

- Disconnect the negative battery cable.

- Disengage the door wire harness grommet (2) from the cowl side panel and disconnect the two body wire harness connectors from the door harness (4).






- Remove the door seal as required from the door (1) and route the door wire harness out from beneath the seal.

- Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the position of the front door hinge (1) in relation to the door (3).






- With assistance, remove the nuts (2) that secure the door hinge (1) to the door and carefully remove the door.

- Using a grease pencil or equivalent, mark the position of the front door hinge(s) (1) in relation to the cowl side panel (2).






- Remove the bolts (3) that secure the door hinge to the cowl side panel (2) and remove the hinge (1).

Installing

- If necessary, paint the replacement hinge.

- Position the front door hinge(s) (1) to the marks made on the cowl side panel (2) during removal and install the bolts (3). Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft lbs).

- With assistance, carefully position the front door (3) to the hinges (1) and loosely install the nuts (2) that secure each hinge to the door.






- Align the hinges to the marks made on the door during removal and tighten the nuts to 33 Nm (24 ft lbs).

- Connect the two body wire harness connectors to the door wire harness (4) and engage the grommet (2) to the cowl side panel. Make sure the wire harness connectors and the grommet are fully engaged.






- Reconnect the negative battery cable.

- Verify door alignment. The door should have equally spaced gaps to the adjacent panels and fit flush across the gaps. Adjust as required.
