Power Liftgate Drive Unit
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Trim removal wedge (RMCP101)
Removing
- Open the liftgate.
- Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
- Remove the liftgate scuff plate.
- Using (RMCP101) disengage the liftgate scuff plate clips (1).
- Carefully disengage the scuff plate end tabs (4) from the left and right quarter trim panels (5).
- Remove the liftgate scuff plate (3) from the liftgate opening.
- Remove the upper D-pillar trim.
- Using trim removal wedge (RMCP101) disengage the upper D-pillar trim clips (2).
- Carefully disengage the upper D-pillar trim end tab (5) from the rear header trim plate.
- Disconnect the power liftgate D-pillar switch and third row power folding seat switch electrical connectors (3) (if equipped).
- Remove the upper D-pillar trim from the liftgate opening.
- Remove the quarter trim bolster (5).
- Using trim removal wedge (RMCP101) disengage the front and rear quarter trim bolster clips (1).
- Carefully disengage the quarter trim bolster upper tabs (2) by lifting the bottom edge of the bolster.
- Continue pulling the quarter trim bolster away from the quarter trim panel to disengage the quarter trim bolster tabs (4).
- Slide the rear seat belt (3) out of the slot in the quarter trim bolster.
- Remove the quarter trim bolster (5).
- Remove the left quarter trim panel (5).
- Remove the third row lower seat belt webbing anchor (4).
- Remove the third row upper turning loop anchor bolt.
- Remove the six quarter trim screws.
- Pull the trim from inner quarter panel (1).
- Disconnect the auxiliary power outlet and power inverter (2) wire harness connectors (3) (if equipped).
- Remove the left quarter trim panel (5).
- If equipped, remove the subwoofer.
- Remove the link rod assembly from the liftgate attachment point. Refer to => [ Power Liftgate Link Rod ] Power Liftgate Link Rod.
- Remove the drive unit bolts (4).
- Disconnect the wire harness connector from the power liftgate drive unit (3).
- Remove the drive unit (1) from the D-pillar (2) and the vehicle.
Installing
- Install the power liftgate drive unit (3) onto the D-pillar (2).
- Insure that the drive unit bracket mounting tab is properly seated into the hole on the D-pillar (1).
- Install the drive unit bolts (4). Tighten the bolts to 26 Nm (19 ft lbs).
- Connect the wire harness connector to the drive unit.
- If equipped, install the subwoofer.
- Install the left quarter trim panel (5).
- Position the left quarter trim panel (5) into the vehicle.
- Connect the auxiliary power outlet and power inverter (2) wire harness connectors (3) (if equipped).
- Align the trim panel over the retaining slots on the inner quarter panel (1) and firmly snap into place.
- Install the six quarter trim screws.
- Install the third row upper turning loop anchor bolt.
- Install the third row lower seat belt webbing anchor (4).
- Install the quarter trim bolster (5).
- Position the quarter trim bolster (5) into the vehicle and slide the rear seat belt (3) into the slot.
- Align the locating tabs (4) with the holes in the left quarter trim panel.
- Carefully engage the quarter trim bolster upper tabs (2) by inserting them into the left quarter trim panel and swinging the bottom edge of the bolster towards the left quarter trim.
- Push the quarter trim bolster into the left quarter trim panel until the clips (1) are fully seated.
- Install the upper D-pillar trim.
- Position the upper D-pillar trim into the liftgate opening.
- Connect the power liftgate D-pillar switch and third row power folding seat switch electrical connectors (3) (if equipped).
- Carefully engage the upper D-pillar trim end tab (5) into the rear header trim plate.
- Push the upper D-pillar trim onto the D-pillar to engage the trim retaining clips (2).
- Install the liftgate scuff plate.
- Position the liftgate scuff plate (3) into the liftgate opening.
- Carefully engage the scuff plate end tabs (4) into the left and right quarter trim panels (5).
- Push the liftgate scuff plate down onto the liftgate opening to engage the scuff plate clips (1).
- Connect the battery negative cable.
- Using an appropriate scan tool, check and erase any power liftgate control module diagnostic trouble codes.
- Perform the power liftgate learn cycle. Refer to => [ Power Liftgate Learn Cycle ] Power Liftgate Learn Cycle.
- Verify power liftgate system operation.
