Removing

Before proceeding the warning and cautions for the rear suspension. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Rear Suspension.

- Raise and support vehicle.

- On each side of vehicle, remove wheel mounting nuts (3), then rear tire and wheel assembly (1).

- Remove screw securing left rear parking brake cable to left axle trailing arm.

- Remove screws (2) securing right rear parking brake cable (1) to front of axle (3).

- Remove screw (3) securing parking brake cable routing bracket to axle.

- Remove two bolts (2) securing disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) to axle.

- Remove disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) from axle and rotor (4) as an assembly.

- Hang assembly out of way using wire or a bungee cord. Use care not to overextend brake hose when doing this.

- Remove any retaining clips, then slide brake rotor (2) off hub and bearing (1).

Prior to removal, clean area around sensor head to help prevent contaminants from entering bearing when sensor head is removed.

- Remove wheel speed sensor routing clip (2) from rear axle.

- Remove screw (2) fastening speed sensor head (1) to hub and bearing (3).

- Remove wheel speed sensor from hub and bearing.

- Remove bolts (2) securing hub and bearing (1) to axle (3).

- Remove hub and bearing and brake shield.

- Position transmission jack or equivalent under center of axle raising it enough to support axle.

- Remove bolt (3) and nut securing track bar (2) to axle (4).

- On each side of vehicle, remove lower mounting bolt (4) and nut (3) securing shock absorber (5) to axle.

- Lower jack until each coil spring (1) can be removed from axle.

- Remove both coil springs (1), jounce bumpers (2) and lower isolators (3).

- On each side of vehicle, remove nut (1) and thru-bolt (3) fastening axle trailing arm (2) to forward mounting bracket (4) on body.

- Lower jack and remove axle from vehicle.

Installing

- Center the axle beam on a transmission jack or equivalent standing at axle removal height.

- Raise jack as necessary, then swing the axle trailing arms (2) upward aligning bushings with brackets (4) mounted on body.

- At each trailing arm (2), install a thru-bolt (3) through mounting bracket (4) and bushing. Install a nut (1) on end of each thru-bolt. Do not tighten at this time.

Although both ends of the coil spring may appear identical, they are not. Be sure to place the end with the tag upward.

- Install a lower isolator (3) and jounce bumper (2) on end of each coil spring.

- Place coil spring (2) between body perch and axle at each end of axle. Be sure to place jounce bumper (2) at top.

- Raise jack guiding the coil springs into mounted position. Continue to raise jack until shock absorber lower mounting bolts can be installed though the axle brackets and shock absorber lower mounting eyes.

- At each shock absorber, install lower mounting bolt (4) and nut (3). Do not tighten at this time.

- Install bolt (3) and nut securing track bar (2) to axle (4).

Do not tighten at this time.

- Remove jack from under axle.

- Install hub and bearing and brake shield onto end of axle. Install mounting bolts (2) securing hub and bearing (1) to axle (3). Tighten the mounting bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft lbs).

Ensure that wheel speed sensor mounting surface on bearing is clean before sensor installation.

- Push wheel speed sensor head (1) into mounting hole in hub and bearing (3) and align mounting screw hole.

- Install new mounting screw (2). Tighten mounting screw to 6 Nm (55 in lbs).

- Install wheel speed sensor routing clip (2) into hole in rear axle.

- Install brake rotor (2) over hub and bearing (1).

- Install disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) over axle and rotor as an assembly.

- Install two bolts (2) securing disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) to axle. Tighten mounting bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft lbs).

- Position parking brake cable routing bracket to axle and install screw securing it in place. Tighten screw to 6 Nm (55 in lbs).

- Position right rear parking brake cable (1) in front of axle (3) and install screws (2) securing cable in place. Tighten screws to 6 Nm (55 in lbs).

- Position left rear parking brake cable routing clamp at left axle trailing arm. Tighten screw to 6 Nm (55 in lbs).

- On each side of vehicle, install tire and wheel assembly (1). Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft lbs).

- Lower vehicle.

- Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the vehicle has a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.

- Position vehicle on alignment rack/drive-on lift. Raise lift as necessary to access the rear suspension while keeping vehicle at curb (riding) height.

- Tighten both trailing arm mounting bracket pivot thru-bolts (3) to 175 Nm (129 ft lbs).

- Tighten shock absorber lower mounting bolt nut (1) to 75 Nm (55 ft lbs).

- Tighten track bar lower mounting bolt nut (3) to 81 Nm (60 ft lbs).
