Timing Belt Inspection
- Remove the front timing belt cover. Refer to => [ Front Timing Belt Cover ] Front Timing Belt Cover.
- Inspect both sides of the timing belt. Replace the belt if any of the following conditions exist:
• Hardening of the black rubber back side is glossy without resilience and leaves no indent when pressed with your fingernail.
• Cracks on the rubber back.
• Cracks or peeling of the canvas.
• Cracks on the rib root.
• Cracks on the belt sides.
• Missing teeth.
• Abnormal wear of the belt sides. The sides are normal if they are sharp as if cut by a knife.
• Vehicle mileage, or time at component maintenance requirement.
- If none of the above conditions are seen on the belt, the front timing belt cover can be reinstalled. Refer to => [ Front Timing Belt Cover ] Front Timing Belt Cover.
