Rear Suspension






Wheel Hub and Bearing

Before proceeding review the warning and cautions for the rear suspension. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Rear Suspension.

Removing

- Raise and support vehicle.






- Remove wheel mounting nuts (3), then rear tire and wheel assembly.

- Right side only - Remove exhaust heat shield above exhaust system covering wheel speed sensor wiring connector.






- Disconnect vehicle wiring harness (2) from wheel speed sensor (1) connector.

- Remove wheel speed sensor (1) from routing clips along underbody of vehicle.






- Remove wheel speed sensor (3) from routing clips (1) along brake flex hose.

- Remove wheel speed sensor routing clip (2) from rear axle.






- Remove screw (3) securing parking brake cable routing bracket to axle.

- Remove two bolts (2) securing disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) to axle.

- Remove disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) from axle and rotor (4) as an assembly.

- Hang assembly out of way using wire or a bungee cord. Use care not to overextend brake hose when doing this.






- Remove any retaining clips, then slide brake rotor (2) off hub and bearing (1).






- Remove bolts (2) securing hub and bearing (1) to axle (3). Remove hub and bearing with wheel speed sensor attached and brake shield.

- Separate brake shield from hub and bearing.

Installing


Hub and bearing mounting surfaces on axle and brake shield must be smooth and completely free of foreign material or nicks prior to installing hub and bearing assembly.

- Position brake shield on wheel speed sensor and route wheel speed sensor cable through access hole in shield.

- Install hub and bearing with wheel speed sensor attached and brake shield squarely onto end of axle. Make sure wheel speed sensor is positioned toward rear of vehicle.






- Install mounting bolts (2) securing hub and bearing (1) to axle (3). Tighten the mounting bolts to 55 Nm (41 ft lbs).






- Install brake rotor (2) over hub and bearing (1).






- Install disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) over axle and rotor as an assembly.

- Install two bolts (2) securing disc brake caliper and adapter bracket (1) to axle. Tighten mounting bolts to 100 Nm (74 ft lbs).

- Position parking brake cable routing bracket to axle and install screw securing it in place. Tighten screw to 6 Nm (55 in lbs).






- Install wheel speed sensor routing clip (2) into hole in rear axle.

- Install wheel speed sensor (3) into routing clips (1) along brake flex hose.






- Install wheel speed sensor (1) into routing clips along underbody of vehicle.

- Connect vehicle wiring harness (2) to wheel speed sensor connector.

- Right side only - Install exhaust heat shield above exhaust system covering wheel speed sensor wiring connector.






- Install tire and wheel assembly (1). Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.).

- Lower vehicle.

- Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure the vehicle has a firm brake pedal before moving the vehicle.
