Shift Cable: Service and Repair






Shift Cable

Removing

- Remove the instrument panel knee bolster.

Ensure that the lock tab on the shift cable (2) is depressed before pulling the cable from the shift lever housing.

- Remove the cable from the shift lever (1 and 2).






- Disconnect the shift cable (1) from the transaxle manual valve lever (2).






- Disconnect the shift cable from the bracket.

- Remove the grommet from the bulkhead.






- Pull the cable (2) through the bulkhead (1) into the passenger compartment.

Installing

Ensure the rubber grommet in the bulkhead is fully seated to prevent water leaking into the passenger compartment.

- Install the shift cable (2) through the bulkhead (1) from the passenger compartment.






- Seat the rubber grommet in the bulkhead.

- Connect the shift cable to the bracket.

- Connect the shift cable (1) to the transaxle manual valve lever (2).






Ensure that the lock tab on the shift cable (2) is seated after the cable in installed to the shift lever housing.

- Install the cable to the shift lever (1 and 2).






- Install the instrument panel knee bolster.
