Backrest Cover and Upholstery
• Removing and installing the left backrest is described. Removing and installing the right backrest is identical.
Removing
- Remove the left rear bench seat; to remove the upholstery on the right backrest, the right rear bench seat can remain in the vehicle. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat
- Fold backrest forward.
Vehicles with Variable Luggage Compartment Floor
- Remove the luggage compartment floor from the vehicle.
When installed, the trim - 3 - is tensioned with two springs. When removing the upholstery, the springs must be pressed toward the rear by a second technician.
All vehicles
- Remove the bolt - 4 - (6 Nm) and release the spring - 5 - from the slider - 6 -.
The backrest must be folded forward when releasing the spring component - 5 -. In this position, the tension on the spring element is released.
- Fold the backrest to the rear once again.
- Press the locking mechanisms - arrows - and release belt extraction panel - 2 - from mounts.
• Belt extraction panel - 2 - has a one-time locking mechanism and therefore must be replaced when installing.
- Remove the screw - 7 - (40 Nm) and remove belt anchor - 6 - from the seat.
- Pull the seat belt forward and remove.
• When installing the belt anchor may not be guided through the LATCH mounting eye.
- Remove the cover profiles - 3 - and - 4 - all around from the mounts - 5 - in the backrest frame.
- Fold the cover - 1 - up on the sides.
- Remove all the upholstery clips - 8 -.
• When removing, the upholstery clips - 8 - will be destroyed. They must be replaced when installing. For this, use Upholstery Clip Pliers (V.A.G 1634).
- Release the cover - 1 - and the padding - 2 - from the backrest frame.
Installation
- Install in reverse order of removal.
- Check the function of the backrest lock.
