Front Seat

• The following describes removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle. Removing and installing on the right side is identical.

• The following describes removing and installing a manual seat. Removing and installing a power seat is identical.

Removing


Follow all Safety Precautions when working on an airbag. Refer to => [ Airbags Safety Precautions ] Airbags Safety Precautions.

- Position seat as far forward as possible using fore/aft adjustment.

- Remove screws - 3 - and - 4 -.

- Position seat as far back as possible using fore/aft adjustment.

- Disconnect the battery.

- Remove screws - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove wiring harness from mount in floor.


Electrostatic discharges can lead to an unintended deployment of the airbag. Therefore the technician must discharge static electricity from the body before separating the ignition and ground wiring. This is done, for example, by briefly touching the body or the door striker or pin.

- Depending on vehicle equipment, disconnect seat wiring harnesses from connector station.







If seat is to be lifted out or transported out of the vehicle, it must not be grasped by the attachments, for example, seat belt latch, lever for seat fore/aft adjustment, lever for seat height adjustment or seat trim panels in order to prevent damage.

- Reach with the right hand between backrest and seat cushion, grasp with the left hand onto forward end of seat cushion and lift seat out of vehicle.

- Connect the Airbag Adapter (VAS 6281) to the side curtain airbag wiring harness - 1 -.

- If the airbag adapter (VAS 6281) does not fit, the airbag adapter (VAS 6282) must be used!


The airbag adapter (VAS 6281) or airbag adapter (VAS 6282) must stay connected to the seat until the seat is reinstalled.






Installation

- Lift seat through the front doors and into the vehicle.

- Insert seat into corresponding holes in floor via the centering pins on the tunnel side.

- Install the screw - 1 -, tunnel side.

- Install the screw - 2 -, door sill side.

- Remove airbag adapter (VAS 6281) or airbag adapter (VAS 6282).

- Engage the wiring harness for the side curtain airbag in the connector station.

- Engage the remaining wiring harnesses in connector station, according to vehicle equipment.

- Turn on the ignition.


Make sure that no persons are in the vehicle.

- Connect the battery.

- Position seat as far forward as possible using fore/aft adjustment.

- Tighten the screw - 3 -, tunnel side (40 Nm).

- Tighten the screw - 4 -, door sill side (40 Nm).

- Position seat as far back as possible using fore/aft adjustment.

- Tighten the screw - 1 -, tunnel side (40 Nm).

- Tighten the screw - 2 -, door sill side (40 Nm).


When installing seat, if a thread in mounting plate of seat crossmember was damaged, a reworking of the damaged thread is forbidden. In this case, mounting plate of seat crossmember must be replaced.

If there is damage to threads in mounting plate of seat crossmember:

- Replace the mounting plate for the seat cross member.
