Instrument Cluster


When disconnecting and connecting the battery, always perform the work procedure as described in the repair manual. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.

Instrument cluster component functions can be checked On Board Diagnostic (OBD) program function "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)". Refer to => [ Instrument Cluster Output Diagnostic Test Mode ] Testing and Inspection.

The following components are integrated in the instrument cluster:

Instrument Cluster Control Module (J285)

Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface (J533)

Engine oil temperature display

Tachometer

Engine coolant temperature display

Multifunction indicator

Fuel gauge

Speedometer

Voltmeter

Indicator lamps. Refer to => [ Instrument Cluster Indicator Lamp Symbols, Through 11.06 ] Instrument Cluster Indicator Lamp Symbols, Through 11.06.

All warning and indicator lamps are equipped with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which cannot be serviced or replaced separately. In the event of malfunctions, the complete instrument cluster must be replaced. Refer to => [ Instrument Cluster, Removing and Installing ] [1][2]Instrument Cluster.

DTC Recognition and Display

The instrument cluster is equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capabilities which assists with troubleshooting.

For troubleshooting, use Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) in operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".
