Metal Glow Plugs, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Hinged Socket (3320)

• Test Adapter Kit (V.A.G 1594 A)

• Voltage Tester (V.A.G 1527)

Conditions

• Battery voltage min. 11.5 volts

• Ignition turned off

Sequence

- Disconnect the connectors from glow plugs.

- Connect the voltage tester cable to the battery positive terminal with clamps from the connector test kit.





- Attach the test lead from the voltage test lamp to each glow plug in succession. Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights up: Glow plug OK. LED does not light up: Replace the glow plug.

- Remove and install the glow plugs using (3220): tightening specification: 15 Nm
