Drive Axle Assembly Overview






1 Drive Axle

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Drive Axle ] Rear Suspension.

Allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

2 Outer CV Joint with Drive Axle

Replace only as complete unit.

If CV boot on outer joint is to be replaced, inner joint must be removed from drive axle first.

Before assembling, coat splines using assembly paste (G 052 109 A2).

Clean splines on vehicles with bonded drive axle, degrease and apply locking compound (D 154 000 A1) onto splines. Refer to => [ During start of production, there was a change from bonded to non-bonded driveshafts. If a bonded driveshaft is installed in the vehicle, the following three work steps must be performed additionally: ] Rear Suspension.

3 Clamp

Replace.

4 Protective Boot

Check for tears and scuffing.

5 Clamp

Replace.

6 Cover

7 Securing Ring

Remove and install using circlip pliers (VW 161 A).

8 Inner CV Joint

Replace only as complete unit.

Checking, refer to => [ Inner CV Joint, Checking ] Rear Suspension.

9 Cover

10 Clamp

Replace.

11 Backing Plate

12 Bolt

M10 x 52

50 Nm + 90° turn

Always replace after removal.
