Oil Pump: Service and Repair






Oil Pump

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782)

Long nose gripping pliers (VAS 6226)

Removing

- Remove lower oil pan. Refer to => [ Lower Oil Pan ] Lower Oil Pan.

- Remove coolant pump. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump ] Service and Repair.

- Remove driveshaft - arrow - for coolant pump from oil pump.





- Place old oil collecting and extracting device (VAG 1782) under engine.

- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove oil pipe.





When removing oil pipe, any remaining oil will leaks out.

- Remove three bolts - arrows - and remove intake tube.





- Remove oil pipe together with oil check valve housing.





Oil will leak out when removing oil pipes.

- Press back driveshaft - 1 - for oil pump against spring force and clamp tightly using long nose gripping pliers (VAS 6226).





- Remove bolts - arrows - and remove oil pump.





Installing

Replace seals and O-rings.

- Check whether the 2 alignment pins are present in cylinder block, install if necessary.

- Tighten oil pump - arrows -.

- Unlock long nose gripping pliers (VAS 6226) and let driveshaft - 1 - slide into oil pump.





- Check whether driveshaft is friction locked to oil pump. To do so, reach into intake opening - arrow - of oil pump and try to rotate oil pump gears.





Toothed gears must not be able to be rotated.

The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

- Install coolant pump. Refer to => [ Coolant Pump ] Service and Repair.

- Install lower oil pan. Refer to => [ Installing ] Lower Oil Pan.

- Add engine oil and check oil level. Refer to => [ Oil Level, Inspection ] Component Tests and General Diagnostics.

- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

Tightening Specifications
