Windshield Wiper System
Windshield Wiper System
• When connecting the battery, always perform work procedure as described in => [ Connecting Sequence ] One-Battery Layout with Auxiliary Battery and Two Battery Layout, Disconnecting and Connecting. Not adhering to sequence will result in the deactivation of Main Battery Switch -E74- and subsequent damage to electrical system components.
• Observe notes for threaded connections of battery terminals. Refer to => [ Battery Post/Terminal ] Battery Post/Terminal.
• The function of the windshield wiper system can be checked via the Wiper motor control module (J400) output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).
• Additional information:
Refer to Self Study Program No. 297; The Touareg.
Refer to Self Study Program No. 298; The Touareg Electrical System.
Refer to the Owner's Manual.
Refer to Maintenance Procedures; Rep. Gr. 03.
General Description
• Hood ( Front Hood Switch (F266) ) must be closed to activate windshield wiper functions.
Wiper motor control module (J400) is integrated in Windshield Wiper Motor (V).
• If Wiper motor control module or Windshield Wiper Motor is replaced, Wiper motor control module must be coded. Refer to => [ Wiper Motor Control Module, Coding ] Testing and Inspection.
The Rain Sensor (G213) or Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397) may be installed, depending on equipment.
The rain sensor function is activated via Windshield Wiper/Washer Switch (E22). Refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Overview ] Description and Operation.
• Observe notes for operation for Rain Sensor (G213). Refer to the Owner's manual.
The rain sensor registers rain intensity which it converts to a corresponding signal. This signal is then received by Wiper motor control module and then transmitted to Windshield Wiper Motor.
The Rain/Light Recognition Sensor (G397) controls the Automatic Driving Lights Control (ADLC) function in addition to the functions of rain sensor listed above.
The ADLC (Automatic Driving Lights Control) function is activated via Light Switch (E1). Refer to => [ Light Switch ] Light Switch (E1).
• Observe notes for operation for automatic driving lights control. Refer to the Owner's manual.
The Rain/Light Recognition Sensor also registers light intensity which it converts to a corresponding signal. The Wiper Motor Control Module receives this signal first and then relays it via the instrument cluster to Vehicle Electrical System Control Module (J519) , which switches the driving lights on.
DTC Recognition and Display
The Wiper Motor Control Module and Vehicle Electrical System Control Module are equipped with On Board Diagnostic (OBD), which assists troubleshooting.
For troubleshooting, use Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051A) in operating mode "Guided Fault Finding".
